Tirana is not a city in transformation, it’s a metropolis in formation. The massive migration from countryside to the city of opportunities is comparable with the formation of 19th century metropolises like Paris and London. The vision of ciy in formation addresses the civic nature of the city projected simultaneously toward its exterior, as a capital of Albania, and its interior, as locus oh inhabitation. We wont to actualize Tirana’s latent identity through structuring its formation, an identity to be appropriated and constructed by the citizen of Tirana in order to be touchable and understand the city.
The desire for private property that characterizes Albania in post communis era manifests itself most clearly in the massive migration to the city. After more than a decade of consumption and appropriation of land for private use, the necessy of public space and infrastructure is more present than ever.
The broader development north of tirana’s traditional center, extending to the north of the river Tirana and beyond into settlements such as Kamza, Koder-Kamza and Bathore, reveals that this development is primarly residential.we take this trajectory of growth like a task in our project.
The city’s three river system that flow east/west from mountain lakes through the urbanized valley onwards to the Adriatic play a vital role in defining the city’s public space armature. The sequence of rivers, when wxperienced along the axis moving from the city center to the north, become important transects of the armature of public and open space. They create a diverse sequence of variations in water and nature : the Lana as the urban canal, the river of Tirana as the city’s active and recreational riverfront and the Terkuze river as the natural river ecosystem and entry to the northern countryside.
We choose a site in that crash point of the middle of three river system and the civic axis and our project work is to continue the civic axis into the green axis, to make a piece o nature that connect three rivers of the city, so the rivers is not anymore a boundary, it’s a big strong connecting points.
We choose exactly the second bridge of river of Tirana and the area around it because we think it’s a stronger point and the most important area to be a area that connect not only the two side of the river but to help the normal growth of the city, because this site is exactly above of the city center, this is why we wont to continue the Brasini(Italian architect) axis, to convert into a green axis, and like a concept for all the territory, in the three rivers system with a three lakes in that axis.
